Exploring the depth and breadth of human emotion

Jessica Kissack is a Canadian visual artist and painter based in Hamilton, Ontario

I was raised in a family of creatives. Always encouraged towards any artistic outlet that caught my attention, I enjoy being a master of none: I’m free to express my creative nature every day in a number of ways.

Painting is my favourite way!

After spending several years focused on a career in bio-medical science, I suffered a life-altering burn out the likes of which knocked all my plans sideways (something becoming familiar to more and more of us, I think)

At a time when that heaviness needed an outlet, and I found myself unable to do much of what I was used to, it turned out that one thing I could do, was paint.

My work is about vulnerability and connection. My painting practice helps me to connect with myself, and the finished work is for you to connect with yourself.

I call my work intuitive gestural abstraction: I meet the canvas where I’m at mentally and emotionally, following any impulses that arise, responding to the painting as it evolves.

The result is a genuine reflection of my internal landscape, and an invitation for you to pause, be present, and engage with whatever it brings up for you.

It’s my hope that as the process serves me, the painting will serve you.
